Capnography monitoring has become the standard over recent years for most outpatient surgical procedures that require moderate to deep sedation. Capnography monitors identify end tidal carbon dioxide (etCO2) or the concentration of carbon dioxide in exhaled air. Any changes in CO2, a possible sign of respiratory distress, are instantly identified and represented in waveforms known as capnograms. Waveform shape is indicative of disease conditions and changes in etCO2 indicate severity of the disease and response to treatment. There are many uses for capnography monitoring.
